CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF THE IONIAN CULTURE

The Center for the Study of the Ionian Culture (Ke.Me.Po.I.) was founded on July 20^th, 2004 at Zante by professors, artists, and intellectuals, from the Seven Islands and Italians from the area of Apulia.

Its main goals are:

Ø  The organization of cultural, educational, and research actions under the European Program “INTERREG III” (Greece-Italy and ARCHIMED).

Ø  The scientific contribution, as consultant, due to the high level of expertise and the extended experience of its members and associates, to the materialization of important infrastructure projects in the area of the Seven Islands.

Ø  To help understand, through research, the phenomenon of globalization and how is this manifested in local and regional level. In other words, this project may be entitled “Globalization and the Ionian Culture.”

Ø  To contribute to the development of the promotion of the Ionian Culture, its peculiarities and its richness.

Ø  To create, through research and studies, the objective conditions of a generalized cultural development of this historical (both for Hellenism and civilization in general) region.

To achieve these goals the Center is already working on topics of special interest on the Ionian Culture, folk culture, etc.

The Center is intensively being prepared, in collaboration with local authorities, Universities, and other institutions of the region, to submit proposals of cultural interest to be materialized under the European Program “INTERREG III.”

Furthermore, the Center has created a widespread network of associates throughout this region, in order to be fully prepared to submit its proposals, once the calls of interest for the program have been made.
