CENTER FOR AESTHETIC STUDIES (K.Ai.M.)

The Center for Aesthetic Studies was founded on June 13^th 2002. Up until today it has developed important research, scientific and publishing activities:

PUBLICATIONS

Ø  LOGOS PERI TECHNIS (WORD ON ART), periodical journal, Volume 1 (2003), 116 pages. It includes texts by the members of the Center (V. Fioravantes) and associates, regarding modern art (music, theater, plastic arts) and globalization.

Ø  TECHNI, POLITISMOS, PAGOSMIOPIISI (ART, CULTURE, GLOBALIZATION), 2005, 410 pages, including analyses by prof. Fioravantes and other associates of the K.Ai.m. regarding art (music, plastic arts, poetry, cinema, theater) culture and globalization.

RESEARCH

Ø  Members and associates of the Center for Aesthetic Studies have concluded a research project in collaboration with the Cypriot Studies Center (Ky.Ke.M.) regarding the folk culture of the Dodecanese, Thrace, and Cyprus. This project ended up in the publication of a collective volume under the title “Folk tales: Thrace, Aegean, Cyprus” (2004, 175 pages). The aim of the project was to show the common origins, influences and interaction within this geographical entity of the broader Greek space at the times of globalization. Departing from the storytellers we attempted to show and highlight their common points through their still alive tales. We also attempted a first look into the other folk arts, that of the marble mason, the potter, του χυτευτή, the musician. This aspect of the project is still going on through a new program in collaboration with the Municipality of Southern Rhodes.

Ø  The same researchers, under the supervision of prof. V. Fioravantes are pursuing a scientific research on the folk culture of the Dodecanese. The goal is to show its peculiarity and uniqueness. We aim at publishing a new collective volume which will include analyses by members and associates of the Center for Aesthetic Studies.

Ø  Another research project, which is in development by the Center, is the elaboration of a complete plan of cultural development for:

• The Dodecanese and the Cyclades (the Southern Aegean Region), and
• The Ionian Islands.

The basic target of these plans is the creation of new cultural institutions and agents, mainly on the larger islands, aiming at the development of the local and regional cultural potential, cultural tourism, etc. This project will soon be ready and will be published.

Ø  The Center is working with the Municipality of Southern Rhodes on the project under the title “Contemporary Groups – Contemporary Artists” (2004-2006).

Ø  The Center, in collaboration with the Cypriot Studies Center and Italian associates, is preparing the organization of an international conference at the French Institute of Athens. The theme of the conference will be “Globalization and Culture.”

Ø  At the moment, the Center is working systematically to elaborate proposals of cultural content, within the context of the European Program “INTERREG III” (Greece-Italy, Greece-Cyprus, Greece-Turkey, and ARCHIMED). For its preparation the Center has created a widespread network of associates, which includes university professors, artists, young researchers, intellectuals, research institutes, universities, museums, etc. The basic form of this network, which is still under development, is the following:
